Make your Midlife point the moment about YOU
Toolkit, Tips & Tweaks
When you reach that midpoint in life and career, a shift occurs. Physically and mentally, YOU feel different. Many of us start to ask deeper questions about what we want, what’s important and how we can live differently.
Ironically it’s also when career is at its fullest, family life is at its busiest and your body is changing quickly.
These physical and mental changes are natural but combine it with an ‘always on’ style of working and it’s no wonder that the cracks start to show.
So how can YOU embrace your midpoint and enjoy midlife?
At 40, I had my first child and at 42 I launched my own leadership effectiveness business. Those two years taught me a lot about who I am. To show up calm in my mindset, clear in my thinking with the physical capability to live a busy life - how I was looking after myself had to change.
I had to start putting my health and wellbeing first.
It starts with YOU.
Here are a few of my must-haves, tried and tested that keep me strong.

Skin Secrets
Water, water, water, sleep, sleep, sleep AND use a supporting skin system that lifts the signs of aging. Midlife means change and therefore embracing new treatments and products is essential. I’m all for looking and feeling youthful as long as it's healthy. For me that’s using products that add goodness into my skin whilst also cosmetically helping it lift. I came across this serum and fell in love – significantly improves skin elasticity and is known to combat progerin, a harmful protein that increases as you age and wreaks havoc on your skin. Yeast extract helps support collagen synthesis to reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone while whey protein revitalises the skin by increasing skin’s smoothness, firmness and thickness. I use the full system but if I had to choose one, it would be this serum. My midlife skin is very happy.
£50.51 - Serum
£169.96 - Full Infinite System

Balancing Hormones
Yes, again this is a male and female issue. During midlife our hormones change and the impact on our body mean we are short tempered, lacking in energy and at certain times flat and fed up. Don’t forget – midpoint in life is now a career peak but internally our body functions the same as when this time in life was considered our later years. These supplements have been a game changer for me, they help my body function. I experience less extremes during a month and find myself more balanced, in a better mood. According to legend, the Incan warriors ate Maca for strength and endurance before going to battle. Women in South America have also used Maca for thousands of years to help maintain their stamina and handle stress.

Sleep & a large Eye Mask
Bedtime boundaries are underrated. Lack of sleep is like punishment for the brain. At midlife, women and men struggle with sleep, there is a chemical change in our bodies which makes sleep a challenge. To feel good in ourselves and sharp in our thinking – we need good quality sleep. Sleep is a non-negotiable event in my life. We’ve all heard about technology free zones and bedtime boundaries and I’m an adopter of both. At this stage of my life I have to focus on slowing down my mind a few hours before I want to go to sleep. My work cut off is 8.15pm. My TV cut off is 9.30pm. This all sounds very structured but when you flip it around and think about creating a nourishing warm down, sleep ritual the upside for YOU is inviting.

Stop and Reboot
We work hard, we are time poor and we are addicted to stress. That’s the modern day leader in most societies. This back to back work culture, always available and focused on the future leads to a mental and physical overload. We live in a ‘grab and go’ lifestyle where a quick fix of something indulgent to eat or drink becomes the norm to get us over the hump. I don’t want to stop my glass of wine or a good coffee but I do know that my body is slower to respond and naturally detoxify at this mid-point in my life. For the last few years I have followed a 9-day reboot programme 3 times a year. Its 9 days of giving my body a break, resetting my mindset and rejuvenating healthy habits. Over the 9-days I feel lighter and brighter, more energised and sharper in my thinking. The bonus is losing a few kg’s and looking better. I tell everyone about this programme because I know you’ll feel fantastic from it. It’s a 9 day leadership effectiveness boost.

Expand Your Mind
Midlife can also represent feeling stuck. An autopilot lifestyle. Limited time to do anything about it and a lack of motivation to find a different way. It’s hard to give yourself a kick up the butt and change the way you are thinking. Expanding your mind is an essential way to not live in the past. You’ve all heard ‘that’s the way we have always done it’, ‘I can’t see another way’ type comment during meetings. There is always a different way and our brains get a bit clogged up thinking what we know is right. There is a comfort in that. Mental Fitness is the gym session for your brain. It boosts your capacity to break beyond boundaries and navigated blocked ways of thinking.
