A thought before we meet

When we think about organisations, we often picture structures: organisation charts, functions, governance, reporting lines, meetings, plans and processes. That mental picture can influence how we think about execution too: something structured and sequential, where we define the plan, organise the activity and deliver against it.

But today's organisations operate in an environment that is rarely that predictable. They are constantly responding to changing customer needs, market conditions, new information, competing priorities and decisions made elsewhere in the system. The ambition may remain clear, but the route towards it will inevitably move.

What if, rather than thinking about our organisation as a static structure, we thought about it as a living leadership system, continually sensing, deciding, learning, adapting and moving? And what might that mean for how we think about execution?

Before Wednesday

There is nothing to complete or submit.
We'd simply like you to spend a few minutes reflecting on the questions below and come prepared to share your perspective:
  • When you hear the word "execution", what does it mean to you?
  • What helps you and your teams create momentum, particularly when the route forward isn't completely clear?
  • What gets in the way?
You may want to think of a recent example when something moved faster or more effectively than expected, or when progress became harder than it needed to be. What was happening around the leadership of it?

Your CEO Growth Forum Project Working Guide

You'll also find your CEO Growth Forum Project Working Guide in the link below. This will become one of our working resources during Execution Day and is designed to support the Project work that continues beyond it. Please don't complete it in advance. Instead, take some time to review and absorb the opening pages, familiarise yourself with the thinking and start to consider how the ideas might connect to your Project.

On the day, we'll guide you through the PUT IT TO WORK section together. The later KEEP MOVING section is there for you to return to as your Project develops. The intention is to arrive curious, not complete. Bring your experience and energy rather than the perfect answer.

We'll start there.
To your success
